Apportioning Rent, Insurance, Taxes, and Utilities
For your bills, taxes, insurance and rent, you need to calculate the percentage of your home taken up by your workspace. To do this, you can divide the total square footage of your workspace by the total square footage of your home.
You also need to factor in the amount of time that space is used as a workspace. If your home is a dedicated room that is only used as an office, then you can apportion 100% of the expenses. But, if your kids also use it as a playroom or it doubles as a music studio for your partner, then you need to take that into consideration also.
